While door closers are designed to close effectively the ease at which they are opened is often a  key factor to consider. In locations, such as rest homes where less force is ideal, a cam operated system is potentially the best option, as long as they adequately close the door as required.

Windy locations

In windy locations, the ability for the door to close is critical 

Windy locations require greater force to ensure doors latch when closed, and this is where rack and pinion closers come into their own. While more force may be required to push open the closing can be assured despite the wind factor.
