Electric dropbolts are great for double acting swing door scenarios, and their compact nature allows them to be unobtrusively installed.
They can be installed on a range of doors including glass designs, and can be installed along top of door, or on the vertical side. They are often installed as an additional level of security to complementary mag locks or strikes.
There are two distinct types, Fail Safe and Fail Secure, with characteristics detailed below
Fail Secure Type
Fail secure devices remain closed when power is lost.
A “fail secure” electric dropbolt remains locked when power is lost and is ideal in higher security areas where security must be maintained
Fail Safe Type
Fail safe devices open when power is lost.
A “fail safe”electric dropbolt requires power to remain locked and typically is not suitable for high security applications because it is possible to disable the lock by disrupting the power supply.
